Plastic Pioneer Project
St Andrew's High School has joined a major new campaign to drastically cut the consumption of single-use plastic in UK schools. We have signed up to Plastic Pioneers - a campaign led by environmental charity Hubbub, and sponsored by retailers TK Maxx and Homesense. We, along with 11 other schools nationally are sharing ideas on how to reduce our consumption of single-use plastic.
As part of the campaign, students are auditing our school’s consumption and helping us to experiment with ways to reduce single-use plastic. They are coming up with their own initiatives including replacing plastic bottles with reusable ones, banning yoghurt pots and rethinking lunchtime packaging.
We held a workshop in school with Dan Webb from the Everyday Plastic Survey to highlight the issue to students and help them to discover more about their plastic footprint.
